My First Week on Keto: What Actually Happens When You Finally Start Healing

My First Week on Keto: The Moment Everything Changed

My First Week on Keto

For me, keto was the last stop on the train.
I discovered it completely by accident – right when I had already hit full despair, with zero belief that anything could ever change.

After a year and a half of participating in a clinical study, taking three giant pills the size of my head every single day, I saw some improvement – small, but still something. And then suddenly… the study ended. No more pills.
All the symptoms came back.
My blood markers were dangerous again.
And I found myself completely out of answers.

I was exhausted, broken, after more than four years of suffering.
The one thing that gave me even the tiniest relief? Gone.
And with it every bit of calm I had left.

I went back to vomiting, nausea, stomach pain, constant fatigue, weakness…
24/7 of living inside a nightmare.

🌿 Discovering Keto by Accident

I stumbled upon keto through a famous chef I follow on Instagram.
He has a chronic digestive disease and promotes the ketogenic diet himself.
Through him, I found a nutritional therapist and started a three-month guided process to transition into keto and change my entire lifestyle.

I was extremely skeptical.
Actually, skeptical isn’t even the right word —
I had zero faith that anything could help me after all the top specialists failed.

But I had nothing left to lose.
It was either continue suffering and slowly fade away…
or keep trying.

Before starting, I read everything I could. One of the biggest things that opened my eyes was realizing just how misunderstood “healthy eating” actually is (👉 The Truth Behind “Healthy Eating” and How It Made Me Sick)
This article will help you to understand it better.

I told my therapist the truth:
I wasn’t expecting healing.
My only hope – the most optimistic expectation I had – was maybe to feel a tiny bit of relief.
Just something. Anything.

🥑 Day 1: Something Unexpected

On the very first day, after the very first keto meal, something shocked me:

I felt full.
Deeply full.
And the feeling lasted.

Suddenly I wasn’t hungry after four hours like usual —
I only started feeling hunger around hour seven.

I couldn’t believe that an omelet with avocado and tuna, with no bread and no carbs, was that satisfying.

🍳 Day 2-3: My Mind Routines vs. My Body

The next day I woke up with my old eating habits still programmed into my brain.

I ate breakfast around 11 AM, like always.
Then dinner around 7–8 PM even though I wasn’t really hungry.
I didn’t understand what was happening.
“How am I not hungry? This makes no sense — I barely ate today.”

But that was the reality.

On the third day, habit took over again, so I made breakfast at the same time.
But I couldn’t finish it.
Half was enough.
Satiety came faster.
My energy rose.

As someone who had been chronically ill for years – tired, foggy, drained —
this sudden spark of clarity felt surreal.
Things were shifting.

🌙 Day 4-5: Flow

Everything started flowing naturally.

I practiced eating only when I was hungry.
I worked with my therapist on stress management, sleep, understanding emotional triggers (like snacking in front of the TV), and slowly everything balanced out.

The food was delicious.
After nearly five years without meat (not because I disliked it, but because doctors told me to avoid it), eating it again was pure joy.
Exploring a new kitchen felt exciting.
And I genuinely started to feel… different.

⚖️ After One Week

Part of my guided process included weighing myself.

I had lost 4 kilos in one week without even trying.
I was shocked.
Weight loss was never my goal, just a side effect.
But wow.

By the end of the first month, after four years without a menstrual cycle, it returned.
Just like that.
And has been regular ever since.

💛 Ten Months Later

I didn't know life could feel this peaceful again. Keto didn't just change my health - it gave me back moments like this.

I didn’t know life could feel this peaceful again. Keto didn’t just change my health — it gave me back moments like this.

Today, ten months into the lifestyle —

I’m still enjoying every moment.

I don’t feel deprived.
In the beginning pizza or fries still tempted me, but today they don’t pull me at all.
Most of the time I simply don’t think about food.
My insulin isn’t running my life anymore.

Most importantly:
I feel good.
I feel like myself again.

I have mental clarity I haven’t felt in years.
I’ve lost 36 kilos (a very cute bonus).
And cringy or not,
I got my life back.

I’m grateful I didn’t give up on myself.
It wasn’t always easy, but it was so, so worth it.
